Prof. Rocky S. Tuan
Prof. Rocky S. Tuan

Professor Rocky S. Tuan assumed office as Vice-Chancellor and President of The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) on 1 January 2018. He is concurrently Lee Quo Wei and Lee Yick Hoi Lun Professor of Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine at CUHK. Professor Tuan received his PhD in Life Sciences from the Rockefeller University in New York, and is an internationally renowned biomedical scientist specializing in musculoskeletal biology and tissue regeneration, whose work covers both basic science and engineering, as well as translational and clinical applications. Professor Tuan’s significant contributions have been recognized over the years. He was appointed by University of Pittsburgh as Associate Director of the McGowan Institute for Regenerative Medicine and Founding Director of the Center for Military Medicine Research. He has also served as Co-Director of Armed Forces Institute of Regenerative Medicine, and was elected a Fellow of the National Academy of Inventors (NAI) for his accomplishments in innovation and translational research that bring significant impact on society.

Prof. Pak-chung CHING
Prof. Pak-chung CHING

Professor Ching is Professor of Electronic Engineering at CUHK and Director of Shun Hing Institute of Advanced Engineering. He was formerly Pro-Vice-Chancellor / Vice-President of CUHK and Director of CUHK Shenzhen Research Institute. Professor Ching pursued his studies at the University of Liverpool, and received his BEng and PhD. He has devoted himself to research on adaptive digital signal processing, time delay estimation and target localization, blind signal estimation and separation, automatic speech recognition, speaker identification/verification and speech synthesis, and advanced signal processing techniques for wireless communications. He was Chairman of the Hong Kong Section of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE) and Council Member of the Institution of Electrical Engineers (IEE). He holds fellowships from IEEE, IEE, Hong Kong Institution of Engineers and Hong Kong Academy of Engineering Sciences.

Prof. Wen GAO
Prof. Wen GAO

Professor Gao is a professor at Peking University, Vice Director of National Natural Science Foundation of China, Member of the 10th, 11th and 12th Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, Board Chairman of China Computer Federation, Vice Editor-in-Chief of IEEE T-CSVT, IEEE T-AMD, Editor of JVCI, Member of IEEE Video Signal Processing and Communication Technology, Member of IEEE Multimedia System and Application Technology Committee, Member of China National Committee for the Standardization of Information Technology, Member of Digital Audio-Visual Encoding Technology Standards Group. He has long been engaged in research on computer vision, pattern recognition and image processing, multimedia compression, multi-pattern interface and virtual reality. He is also an IEEE Fellow, Fellow of Association for Computing Machinery, and Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering.

Prof. Benjamin WAH
Prof. Benjamin WAH

Professor Wah is Provost and Wei Lun Professor of Computer Science and Engineering at CUHK. He received his BS and MS from Columbia University, and his MS and PhD from the University of California, Berkeley. As a prominent computer scientist, Professor Wah was the Franklin W. Woeltge Endowed Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He holds fellowships from the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE), the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM), and the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), and served as President of IEEE Computer Society. Professor Wah is currently the Chairman of the Research Grants Council of the University Grants Committee in Hong Kong.

Prof. Pak-wai LIU
Prof. Pak-wai LIU

Professor Liu is concurrently Research Professor of the Lau Chor Tak Institute of Global Economics and Finance, Emeritus Professor of Economics and Co-Director of the Hong Kong Economic Research Centre at CUHK, as well as Vice-President of East Asia Economic Association. He was formerly Pro-Vice-Chancellor / Vice-President of CUHK. Professor Liu received his AB from Princeton University, and MA and PhD from Stanford University. He is active in community service and has served in various positions, including a Director of the Hong Kong Institute of Monetary Research of the Hong Kong Monetary Authority, a Non-Executive Director of the Securities and Futures Commission and Chairman of its Remuneration Committee, and a Member of the Commission on Strategic Development in Hong Kong. He is currently the Chairman of the Advisory Committee on Post-Office Employment for former Chief Executives and Politically Appointed Officials. Professor Liu was conferred honorary fellowship by CUHK in 2016, in recognition of his remarkable contributions to CUHK and the community.

Dr. Anthony NEOH
Dr. Anthony NEOH

A Senior Counsel in Hong Kong and Treasurer of CUHK, Dr. Neoh has been a Member of the Council of CUHK since 1994 and served as Vice-Chairman from 1995 to 1997. He has contributed generously his time and professional expertise to guide the planning and administration of CUHK over the years. Dr. Neoh has been Chief Adviser to the China Securities Regulatory Commission since 1998. In the academic field, he has been Visiting Professor of many prestigious universities including Peking University, Tsinghua University, Zhejiang University and Zhongshan University. He is an Academician of International Eurasian Academy of Sciences, and was conferred the degree of Doctors of Laws, honoris causa, by CUHK in 2003.

Mr. Roger LUK
Mr. Roger LUK

Mr. Luk is a Member of the Council of CUHK since 1997 and served as Treasurer of CUHK from 1999 to March of 2017. He has contributed generously his time and professional expertise to guide the planning and administration of CUHK over the years. Mr. Luk is an Honorary Professor of Faculty of Business Administration at CUHK. He was formerly Managing Director and Deputy Chief Executive of Hang Seng Bank Limited in Hong Kong.

Prof. Qingquan LI
Prof. Qingquan LI

Professor Li is President of Shenzhen University since July 2012. Prof Li obtained PhD from the Wuhan University (formerly Wuhan Technical University of Surveying and Mapping), and had served as Professor and Vice-President of the University. Professor Li is an expert of the transportation field in the National 863 Program, a recipient of the Cross Century Talents Award from the State Ministry of Education (MoE), as well as a Member of the Editorial Board for Acta Geodaetica et Cartographica Sinica and other academic journals. As a leading expert in geographical information system, 3S and communication technology integration, and intelligent transportation, he has published four books and over 100 academic papers. He was awarded a State Scientific & Technological Progress second-class award and a first-class award in Scientific and Technological Progress from MoE.

Prof. Xia LI
Prof. Xia LI

Professor Li is currently Associate Vice-President cum Director of Student Affairs at CUHK (SZ). Professor Li was formerly Dean of Information Engineering of Shenzhen University and a Member of the Steering Committee on Teaching. She received her PhD in Information Engineering from CUHK. Her research interests include signal and systems, communication and application of intelligent optimization technology.

Prof. Yingli LIU
Prof. Yingli LIU

Professor Liu is President of Shenzhen Entrepreneur Association / Shenzhen Enterprise Confederation. He has served as Professor of Tsinghua University and Wuhan University. Professor Liu received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Jilin University of Technology. Later, he worked in Canada and focused on software research and development from 1986 to 1987. He was formerly Executive Vice-Mayor of Shenzhen, Director of the Shenzhen Hi-tech Industrial Park, Chairman of the Shenzhen side of the "Steering Group on Shenzhen / Hong Kong Co-operation in Innovation and Technology‘’, Executive Director of the International Association of Science Parks and Areas of Innovation (IASP), and Vice-Chairman of the China National High-Tech Industrial Zone Association. Professor Liu is Honorary Fellow of CUHK.

Prof. Shuangchen RUAN
Prof. Shuangchen RUAN

Professor Ruan is Vice-President of Shenzhen University. After obtaining his PhD from Tianjin University, he further studied at Imperial College London from 1993 to 1994, and was promoted to Professor in 1994. His research interests include optical fiber lasers, nonlinearities of optical fibers, and ultrafast spectroscopy equipment. Professor Ruan has published two books and over 100 academic papers. He has received various honours and awards over the years, including State Scientific & Technological Progress third-class award, Chinese Academy of Sciences Young Scientist second-class award, the 6th Chinese Youth Technology Award, and The Chinese Optical Society Technology Award (D.H. Wang Optical Award). He was conferred the title of National Outstanding Teacher, Shenzhen Ten Outstanding Young Persons and Chinese Academy of Sciences Ten Outstanding Young Persons.

Mr. Huilong TU
Mr. Huilong TU

Mr. Tu is Board Chairperson of Hong Kong Haiya Group and Shenzhen Haiya Group. He served as Vice Chairperson of China Enterprise Confederation, Chairperson of Federation of Hong Kong Guangdong Community Organizations, Permanent Honorary Chairperson of Hong Kong and Shanwei Townsmen Association, Honorary Chairperson of Hong Kong Foreign Businessmen Association, Member of the Standing Committee of Guangdong Province Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference and Member of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference.

Prof. Jie TANG
Prof. Jie TANG

Professor Tang is a professor at the School of Management of Harbin Institute of Technology, Board member of Shenzhen Finance Institute, CUHK(SZ), Adjunct Professor of Nankai University and Professor of Peking University HSBC Business School, Special Representative of Shenzhen Response to Climate Change, Member of the 3rd National Expert Committee on Response to Climate Change. Professor Tang obtained his PhD from Nankai University. He had served as Vice Director of Shenzhen People’s Congress and Vice Mayor of Shenzhen Municipality.

Prof. Qidi WU
Prof. Qidi WU

Professor Wu is Professor of Tongji University and Director of Department of Management Sciences at National Natural Science Foundation of China. She received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Tsinghua University and her PhD from ETH Zürich. She had been Vice-Chairperson of Department of Electrical Engineering at Tongji University and Vice-President of the University, and then President of Tongji University from 1995 to 2003. She had served as Vice Minister of Education, Vice-Chairperson and Secretary-General of the State Council Academic Degrees Committee, a Member of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, and Member of University Grants Committee in Hong Kong.

Prof. Yangsheng XU
Prof. Yangsheng XU

Professor Xu is the Founding President of CUHK(SZ) since August 2013. Professor Xu joined CUHK in 1997, and was formerly Pro-Vice-Chancellor / Vice President of CUHK, and Professor of Automation and Computer-Aided Engineering of CUHK. Professor Xu received his BEng and MEng degrees from Zhejiang University and his PhD from the University of Pennsylvania. He actively participates in research on robotics and intelligent control engineering. Professor Xu is an Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering, a Fellow of International Academy of Aeronautics and Astronautics, a Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, an Academician of International Eurasian Academy of Sciences, and a Fellow of Hong Kong Academy of Engineering Science.

Prof. Kenneth YOUNG
Prof. Kenneth YOUNG

Professor Young joined CUHK in 1973, and is currently Emeritus Professor of Physics at CUHK. Professor Young was formerly Master of CW Chu College, and Pro-Vice-Chancellor / Vice-President of CUHK. He obtained his BS and PhD from the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) in the US. A theoretical physicist, Professor Young is a Fellow of the American Physical Society and the International Eurasian Academy of Sciences. He served as Vice-President of the Association of Asia Pacific Physical Societies. Professor Young was a Member of the University Grants Committee in Hong Kong, Chairman of its Research Grants Council, and Member of its Quality Assurance Council. He is also the Chairperson of Curriculum Development Council, HKSAR Government, and an Ex-officio Member of the Education Commission of the Government in that capacity. Professor Young was conferred honorary fellowship by CUHK in 2017, in recognition of his remarkable contributions to CUHK and the community.
